How overtime works

Request overtime for your employees, decide how extra work is recognized, and control who signs it off under Overtime. Requests are created here and approved in the employee Self Service portal, and the approved hours feed into payroll.

Menu item What it covers
Overtime Requests Creating, viewing, editing, and deleting requests, with separate views for admins and employees (Overtime requests)
Configuration The organization-wide overtime settings and the approval matrix (Configure overtime)
  • Overtime source: where the overtime hours come from.
    • Eban Attendance: hours are taken from punched or recorded attendance on a work schedule you choose.
    • Manual Entry: you enter the overtime hours directly, which is how you record overtime when attendance is not tracked, such as on hours-summary contracts.
  • Approval level: how many steps a request passes. Either a single Approve step, or the two-step Recommend, then Approve flow.
  • Approval matrix: who recommends and who approves for each employee.
  1. Configure the settings and approval matrix first. Until they exist, the requests area shows a warning banner and no request can be approved in self-service.
  2. Request: create a request for one or more employees on the dates they worked, choosing the source, period, and limit or duration. See Overtime requests.
  3. Approve: the assigned recommender, where there is one, and the approver act on it. Approved hours then flow through to payroll.

Overtime feeds the attendance and payroll reports you already use, from the day-by-day extra time worked to the pay it earned. See Where overtime appears in reports.
